Measurements of the BLAKE2b POW chain, collected from a Bitcoin Knots node and a direct peer-to-peer crawl. This page reports what was observed. It offers no advice and no recommendations. Its three projections — the time of the next retarget, the difficulty change that retarget will apply, and the time of the next halving — are marked with a tilde and state what they assume.

Issuance

Computed from the block height by the subsidy schedule. These are not measurements of the UTXO set: the coins actually spendable are fewer, because the genesis coinbase, the two BIP30 duplicate coinbases and a scattering of blocks that claimed less than they were owed were never issued — under 200 BTC against 20.09M. gettxoutsetinfo would measure that, but the node carries no coinstatsindex and a difference this size does not warrant building one.

Reachable nodes

Only nodes that completed a peer-to-peer handshake and advertised the BLAKE2b service bit are counted. BTCS (SHA256) nodes are not included. Storage is read from the same advertised service bits: archival nodes offer the full chain, pruned nodes only recent blocks.

Individual nodes

Detected nodes listed individually: — in the most recent crawl. Onion addresses are shortened to fit. Click one to copy the full address, or hover it to read the full address without copying. The complete addresses are also in nodes.json.

Checks port 8333 only. A node listening on any other port cannot be checked here and will not be reported as reachable. Attempts a peer-to-peer handshake with the address you enter and reports what that node advertised. Private, loopback and link-local addresses are refused. Onion addresses are checked over Tor: a v3 address is verified against its own checksum before any lookup is attempted, and if Tor cannot open a connection the result is reported as unknown rather than as the node being unreachable. Requests are rate limited per source address.
